Fuel cell cars - A solution for sustainable Individual Transport?
In the video, hydrogen-based fuel cell cars are compared with battery-based e-cars in terms of energy efficiency. The energy efficiency of the drive technology plays a central role in the energy transition - especially as long as renewable energy from wind farms/solar plants is not available in surplus.
Hydrogen-based fuel cell cars require three times more primary energy than battery-based e-cars, as hydrogen production via electrolysis, hydrogen transport and the reconversion of hydrogen into electricity in fuel cells are associated with high losses.
Fuel cell cars are therefore not a short-term alternative to battery-based e-cars.
